Krabi-Day 4

I FOUND NEMO!!!!!

Okay, let me back track and explain...

So we got on our speed boat for the tour we paid for around 9 am. They were taking us to four different places. The first place was Ao Nong beach which turned out to be the same beach we went to the day before. We saw Miss M there again! We were relieved to find that she was occupied with other customers. This allowed us to explore more...
Ao Nong was sweet because we could totally explore the caves and cliffs. We got to take some sweet pictures although I think Lili finds my need to be in at least half of my pictures somewhat irritating. Next time I am bringing someone I don't really like and making them take tons of pictures of me (just kidding)!
Next stop was snorkling! Seriously cool stuff!!!!!!!! The fish in the Indian Ocean are really cool. Our guides showed us a picture guide to the kinds of fish we might see so we went in search of them. After 20 minutes of searching or so I found the false clown anemone fish (a.k.a. NEMO!!!) and got really excited. I started yelling for Lili into my snorkel. We marveled over it for a bit. I think the Aussies that were there thought we were a teeny bit stupid. We also saw sea cucumbers (ugly), rainbow fish (gorgeous), some blue things, some yellow things, some leopard print things (I kid you not) and a sea snake here or there. We'd been playing for quite some time at this point and everyone was glad to hear it was time for lunch!!

They took us to a little stretch of island for lunch and handed us each a styrofoam box. Inside was an AWESOME shrimp dish (the shrimp were seriously more like chicken) and rice. Then Lili and I donned our snorkel gear again and went out for Round 2. We saw about the same stuff. Then we headed out for island numero trois...

Chicken Island (or as we referred to it, incorrectly, Chicken Head Island) was mostly just a silly beach but the cliff to the side looked like a Chicken's head. Hilarious and some great pictures.

Beach number 4 was supposed to be a really great beach but, well, I was tired of beaches at this point. We did our Top Model photo shoot and then played in the water for a bit. I looked like a mess and was a bit burned (though it had been overcast most of the day and I was wearing SPF 45) so I wasn't terribly disappointed when it began to rain. Not hard but the half day trip was almost over so it was time to go anyway.

We went back to the bungalow for showers and Mars bars but were so tired that we didn't end up leaving. Sad because we missed dinner again!!!

Tomorrow we leave for Bangkok (where we supposed booked a baller hostel) and I am so excited. I think Lili is sad to leave but I want to go somewhere more city-ish. Excitingggggggg!!!

Krabi-Day 3

We woke up again at like 3 am...luckily our room gets HBO and CNN. At least there's something to do while raiding the mini-bar until breakfast time rolls around!

Breakfast was pretty much exactly the same...delicious. After we went to the pool again. We were playing in the water (there were a few balls there to toss around) and met some of the other people staying at the resort. We were talking to a couple of the girls there. Turns out they had just finished their masters programs at Duke and were traveling around SE Asia. They told us that we had gone to the wrong beach the day before and showed us where the actual path we were supposed to take was. So we grabbed a couple hotel towels and headed off for the beach. Again.Totally worth it because the beach they sent us to was GORGEOUS. We would go in up to our necks and still be able to see our feet. There were little clear fish swimming all around. Lili caught a couple but they eluded me...much like we eluded Miss M.

Miss M was a very little Thai woman who told us that we had bad feet and were in desperate need of foot massages. She was willing to do them right on the beach as well! But we were really there just to play in the water so we said no. She didn't take that very well...

Anyway we were getting tired so we headed back to our bungalow and changed into regular clothes and then hit up the resort's spa. We got AMAZING hour long massages for 200 baht (about $6). They bend you in all sorts of crazy ways...it would almost be a workout if it wasn't so relaxing!

After, we went to the resort's general store and bought some delicious ice creams and booked a day tour tomorrow. We are going to go around so some of the nearby islands, woohoo!

We also managed to stay up for dinner (mindblowing, I know). I had coconut crusted fish...tasted a great deal like Red Snapper. The mango salad was WAAAAAAAAY too hot for me, but I ate a ton and was ready for bed by the time we left (probably about 8 pm).

Krabi-Day 2

Well we woke up at 3 a.m. starving and raided the mini-bar. Probably not one of our greater ideas but whatev...Breakfast started at 7 and we had vouchers for it so as soon as we could we were sitting in the outdoor dining room with coffee, tarts, croissants, fruit, ham, eggs, pad thai, and noodles. Weirdest breakfast ever but it was SO good. Oh yay! Ready to start the day!

Bikinis went on immediately of course and we went to check out the pool. It was really nice and there was enough lounge chairs around it for everyone. By noon it was ridiculously muggy though and time for me to get out of the sun (despite multiple applications of SPF 45 and some lovely bug spray). I went back to our bungalow to grab a book and read out on our porch for awhile. There was a little pool next to our bungalow with koi in it. So cool (and you know I have some crazy ADD so the book could only keep me entertained for so long).

I guess I should mention that part of the reason that everything was so inexpensive (besides it being Thailand) is that we went during the rainy season. Now this means that everything is greener and more beautiful, but several times a day (pretty much like clockwork) the heavens open up and it pours for a little while. Then it stops, the sun comes out and everyone goes about their business. Ups and downs...

Eventually Lili came back from tanning (kinda hard when the clouds are rolling in) and we decided to go in search of Railay beach. So we asked at the front desk and they sent us through a path which led to another resort behind ours which faced the beach on the opposite side. We determined that our bungalows were much nicer.

Honestly? Not all that impressed by the beach. I expected more. But the Indian Ocean is AMAZING. First of all it is insanely warm. Like a bath that's been sitting a bit too long. Second it is really clear. Third, it is surrounded by huge cliffs and filled with tiny islands. We got to take some amazing pictures before it was officially our bedtime (mm, about 6 or 7 pm). Haha, we had noooooooooooo plans for getting used to Thai time quite yet...

Krabi-Day 1

FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!After our longboat pulled up to the beach we were escorted to the front desk (outside) and greeted with a drink (which was very tasty!). The people were really nice and eventually had us all checked in. They took us to our "room" which was actually our very own bungalow!
We had our very own front porch, bedroom, dressing room, and bathroom. Yes, this is a big deal to me because we were paying less than some hostels!

I am sure we had really good intentions to do something...but Lil and I each got into our beds and passed out. Day 2 should be more interesting.
